Yu Gu – Job Market Research

Yu Gu – Job Market Research
1. The four jobs I have chosen are all finance related. Two of them located in the United States, and the other two located in China, my home country. The common minimum requirements include a four year college degree, and internship experience. The major difference between the two jobs in America and the two in China is that the two in China have higher standards of qualifications. This is probably because the two Chinese jobs are open globally, and in senior management level. The American jobs on the other hand are mainly open to American citizens. If I search Chinese jobs in Chinese, the standards of Qualifications would be expected to be much lower. In addition, the two Chinese jobs require both English and Chinese skills. This is not difficult to understand, since English is the “world business language” and Chinese is the official language of China.

2. The number one compensation I would concern about would be career development. Considering this, an American job is preferred for me. I plan to return to China within seven years. However, when entering the job market in China, American working experience would be a huge thing to put on my resume, especially in finance industry. If I stay in the U.S for the rest of my life, I am not very optimistic about further career development. This is because of my questionable English skill, the culture shock, and potential discriminations towards foreign origin. The other main concern of main is where I will live. As I grow up in China, I feel more comfortable living in China. Considering all the factors, my plan is to returning to China with a reasonable amount of working experience in America.
