Farah Abdullah - Job Market Research

As an aeronautical engineering student, finding a job posting is not hard since engineering field is so huge and diverse. However, trying to find the right job that is suitable for me is quite hard since most of the companies prefer someone with experience. Based on the four job advertisements that I have selected, the most common requirements listed by the companies are must be able to work in a group, acquire good computer skills, know basic tools in computer programming, must have good communication skills, and must be willing to travel. However, compared to Malaysia, job advertisements in the US have more details on what they will be expecting from the applicants. For example, the list of duties and responsibilities are given so that the applicants could have a brief idea on the job position.

Of all the four job advertisements I selected, none of them has included the expected salary for the position. There were nothing on the health insurance, vacation time or any other compensation package too. However, one company did mention an opportunity to own a business in the future since the task includes inventing new business solution which will be presented directly to one of the director.

Since the goal of an engineer is to make human life simple and easier, most of the engineering companies mission is to satisfy their customers. Most of them also put a target to go globally with their technology. However, one company's mission catches my eye where they vow to serve not only the customers but also the environment. For me, this is attractive and should be put into consideration when I am applying for a job.

Aeronautical industry in the States is pretty big but it usually connected to the US military. They usually require the applicants to be a US citizens. Malaysian job markets for aeronautical field, on the other hand, is rather smaller but started to grow. Besides that, there is no other difference that can be seen when comparing the US job market and Malaysia job market.
