Malaysian Job Market
1. In America, the job prospect for Actuarial Science students is broader than in my home country as we can see from the opening job positions, there are specifically for Actuarial Science or Statistics majors. The two jobs in America involve insurance industry while in Malaysia, it is more to business and risk management. Most of insurance company is Malaysia requires more than 3 experience working for actuary position. The requirement in America is basically more to the certification, compared to Malaysia CGPA is more important. Nevertheless, both countries require skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and other programming such as SAS.
2. Among the four job advertisements, only one of them included the benefit for their employee in the job advertisement. The Disability RMS (America) attracts their applicants by listing the comprehensive benefit package including medical, disability and life insurance. It also promotes a work-life balance with a flexible 37.5 hour work week and onsite fitness facility. Meanwhile, the compensation from the rest company are vague.
3. All of the four companies are in service industry; either in insurance or banking industry that related to consumer products. For example, Transamerica mission is to "help individuals, families and businesses build, protect, and preserve their hard-eaned assets." Each company approaches its target consumer by looking the consumer need. For example, EON Bank Group in Malaysia provides Islamic Banking as the prospect is wide in that country.
