Jun Kwon - Job Market Research

1. The jobs that I am looking for has common basic requirements of college degree in aviation related majors, with high stress management skills. One must be able to deliver clear and efficient communication between pilots and other controllers. While job duties are very identical from one to another, one of the major differences is in USA, air traffic controllers are federal employee, while foreign countries are operated by privatized company.

2. While Canada and most European countries are offering national health care, Eurocontrol, based in multiple locations throughout the Europe seem to be not offering 100% health benefits. What they’ve stated is more similar to most popular US system, 20% copay and 100% for preventative care. Also, another interesting fact is, US-FAA’s retirement age is only 45, meanwhile Eurocontrol is pushing all the way to 63.

3. They all talk about providing safe & efficient air traffic management services. However one thing Eurocontrol is different from FAA and NAVCanada is they are also working on harmonizing and bringing different European nations into one integrated service.

4. I can’t tell the reality just from the job descriptions alone. However it appears to be easier to get a job position in foreign countries than here in the US. For example, just looking at NAVCanada’s website, it bears somewhat unprofessional layout compare to US FAA.

USA
FAA - Air Traffic Controller
Delta - Fleet Coordinator
Canada
Nav Canada - Air Traffic Controller
Europe(Multin national)
Eurocontrol - Air Traffic Controller
