Omar Muasher - Job Ad Analysis

1. Did you know anything about the company before you saw the job advertisement? If so, what?

Yes, I knew that Bank of America is a financial services company that is on of the ‘Big Four Banks” along with Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Bank of America is one of the largest companies in the United States. Another thing I knew about Bank of America before seeing the job advertisement is its acquisition of Merrill Lynch in 2008 after the financial market collapse.

2. Does the company have a website? What is the url? What does the website suggest about the company’s personality or philosophy?

The company does have a website which covers a broad scope of things from online banking to learning more about the company. Its URL is https://www.bankofamerica.com/. The company philosophy talks about grant programs, associate commitment and philanthropic management. They aim to satisfy both their customers and their employees by employing a comfortable work setting as well as providing exceptional customer service. The company also encourages donations to charity and according to their website each year volunteers of the company donate more than 900,000 hours to help meet community needs. This is the URL for the company’s philosophy page http://www.bankofamerica.com/foundation/.

3. What keywords are on the website/job advertisement that you can use in your resume and cover letter?

Since this is a financial services company, I would need to include work experience I have had in the related field. The keywords I might use are “strategic,” “risk management,” “P/L statements” and other technical terms. Other than the keywords required on my resume such as my major, education, work experience and the other elements that would target a financing job would include the use of words in describing such experiences. Showing confidence, development and insight in the use of words in job descriptions attracts the employer.

4. What skills is your prospective employer seeking? Which skills are the most important, in your opinion?

The prospective employer, like most companies, requires proficiency in written and communication skills. They look for attention to detail, academic achievement, strong work ethic, initiative, leadership and strategic and creative thinking among others. I believe that the most important skills are the exceptional communication skills that allow a person to speak their mind and reach out to others if they need direction. Strong work ethics as well as team focus are other characteristics needed for a prospective employee to possess, as they are essential to an effective work force for the company to achieve profits as well as maintain a healthy work setting.
