I was never worried about having a nice resume until recently when I realized I am about to graduate and I will be in huge trouble if I do not start to work on one now. So, I started to ask around, hunting my former seniors who are already have a stable work, asking them about what a resume should look like. Using their resumes as references, I started to work on mine and finally, I was proud to tell everyone that I already have my own resume.
However, after reading the article entitled "A Glimpse and a Hook", I felt like my resume does not stand a chance at all. It is a typical, ordinary, or should I say an 'average' resume that will not even make it to the second pass. Although it is a bit frustrating, I have to agree with the writer. Resume is like an introduction of yourself to a total stranger and if you want to make yourself notable, you cannot be like everyone else. There should be something that makes you different than the others, something that can catch the eyes of the reader. And I could not agree more on his last sentence,"A resume is not a statement of facts. It’s a declaration of intent."
The second article "Build the Resume Employers Want" for me is not really helpful. Although there is step by step given on how a resume should look like, it will only produce the same standard resume. At least that is what I feel. I do agree that resume should look professional but it does not have to be in some particular structures. However, the article does give a brief idea on what should be included and what should not in a resume.
