Yae Sam Song - Response 04

In the article of "Boss's Angry Email Sends Shares Plunging", is a perfect example of how important email etiquettes are. This is an interesting example as the angry email has directly caused the stocks of this company to dorp by 22%. This is a huge drop that is caused by just one angry email. The boss could have been really angry with the managers and employees showing up late to work, but the way he communicated to the managers were absolutely mistaken. Although the managers are lower in hierarchy than the boss, they are no different in person. They are the same human being and have the right to be respected by all means. There is a phrase that if you want to be respected, you should respect others first. The boss failed to respect the managers and in return the managers failed to respect him. The tone of the email is very angry and disrespectful. It almost seems like that the boss has sent this email in order to discourage and make the managers feel intimidated. He directly threatens them that he would replace the managers if they do not accomplish what he wants. The words that the boss picked are disrespectful. For example, “You have two weeks. Tick, tock”. The use of the words tick tock makes this email more disrespectful than it really is. It seems like that the boss is talking to a child. It also seems like that he uses his authority. The boss knows that he is the one in authority and therefore does not care about the feelings of other employees. This could be the reason for him to sound exceedingly arrogant. Another point to mention is that he capitalizes particular words in order to give emphasis to the managers. Words like “NEVER and YOU” are capitalized, making this email rude.

From this example one has to realize that email etiquettes are important no matter who you are communicating to. Anger only creates anger and disrespectfulness only creates disrespectfulness in return.
